Lest you continue to use them interchangeably, may I tell you that there is a difference between "traffic"and "traffic jam".
The first simply refers to the vehicles on the road at a given time; the second means "a long line of vehicles on a road that is now at a standstill or moving slowly".
I see we mostly say things like: "There is traffic today; I spent about five hours in the traffic", when we actually mean to refer to "traffic jam".
They are not the same, please!
I need to emphasis this, and please, digest.
