I think it is important I correct this idiom, perhaps to stop the abuse it has suffered, over the years.
"Cut your coat according to your size."
Sorry, it's "Cut your cloth according to your cloth".
Yes, that is how you have it in English, and this is the meaning:
"To do just what you have the money and strength to do, and nothing more."
May I emphasise it:
"Cut your cloth according to your cloth".
